Oil Paintings

My ongoing body of work explores the intertwining possibilities of story telling, metaphor, surrealism and landscape. A love of myths, legends, folklore and ghost stories suffuses these paintings. But they are not illustrations. Nor do they purport to tell a story. A single image is not a narrative. They are a prompt, the start of a conversation.
Murals
My public art is a direct extension of my studio work, exploring some of the same imagery and ideas. Art can be a powerful tool for connecting people to both their built and natural environments. Most murals are in cities and I strive to bring elements of the surrounding landscape into that urban experience.
A God in the Hearth
2013-2017
These paintings were part of a large visual essay on Humanity's deep connection to and dependence on fire including the implications of fossil fuels and the ever increasing risks of wildfire. It was exhibited at multiple venues across Oregon. A catalog of the work was supported by the Ford Family Foundation and the Oregon Arts Commission.
